Howdy blog readers!
It’s been a hot minute.
So, how are things?
Life’s been good, albeit hectic, as of late. What’s new amirite?
Fall is slowly creeping up on us (PRAISE JESUS), and my pure basicness is about to come out in full force. I actually already made some pumpkin muffins this week AND unleashed a Glade cinnamon apple Plug In. Never mind it’s still 90 degrees outside in Dallas. The only bandwagon I haven’t jumped on is owning a pair of Uggs. It’s not a good look for me. Plus, they’re hella expensive.
Everything else, though, I’m front row center.
Welp. Now that I’ve admitted to my love affair with Fall, let’s dive into what’s been going on these last few weeks?
Babies, babies, all sorts of babies.
Jimmy and I found a new fertility doctor. Not that there was anything wrong with our last one, but we weren’t exactly jiving. I discovered I’m someone who requires a lot of information. Like, all the information. Which, I admit, can sometimes be detrimental. My last doc was somewhat laissez faire. “You can do IUI, IVF, it’s up to you. You just let me know.” Uhhh, okay? I need details, man! There are quite a few differences between the two! We are much happier with our new doc. She takes the time to answer all of our questions, no matter how many times we ask them. She also doesn’t require the six-month Zika waiting period since neither Jimmy or I showed any symptoms. We’re in the mid stages of fertility treatments, and I hope to update you all sometime soon.
Writing, writing, all sorts of writing.
I finished my second book! What?! Sometimes I have to sit back and really soak in the fact that I wrote two novels. And both I am pretty proud of. I’m still trudging through the the publishing game. I’m working my buns off to write entertaining, thought provoking books you all will love. And I am positive you will! I’m close, I can feel it. Publishing will happen, and I’ll keep working until it does.
Thinkings, thinkings, all sorts of thinkings.
This brain is always working overtime. Shocking, I know. It’s always chasing this illusive idea of contentment. And what does content look like? And is it something to chase every day or an umbrella idea? Honestly, I’m not sure. I think each day brings the opportunity to choose happiness over stress or negativity. Sometimes the latter wins. I recently started reading Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis. The book explores the many lies we as woman believe about ourselves. Whether society engrains them into our psyche or overtime they seep in and take hold, I’m not sure. You may not relate to every lie Rachel works through, but I was surprised by how many rang true for me. Lies like “I’ll start tomorrow,” or “I’m defined by my weight,” or “I should be farther along by now.”
Between reading Girl, Wash Your Face, months of journaling, a little counseling, and a lot of self-exploration, I realized how much I hold onto the lie that I always have to be “on.” Perfect. Perfect wife. Cook. Body. Lover. Writer. Nurse. You name it. And holy shit, is THAT ever exhausting!! Seriously, I’m tired. But slowly I’m trying to change my outlook on things. I can cut myself some slack. I can change my mind. I can be a little selfish and figure out what I need instead of what everyone else needs. I highly recommend picking up Girl Wash Your Face. It’s funny, smart, and makes you think. There are some questions to work through, and I truly believe they help.
Now that we’ve ventured into the depths of my brain, here are some great things to help you transition into fall (not like its hard though).
We’re close to that moment where I can wear closed toed shoes without breaking into a panic (sweat). Might be weird, but I get real panicky-like when my feet get too hot. It’s why I thrive in winter. So, I recently bought a pair of Dr. Scholl’s shoes. I won’t lie, when I originally thought of Dr. Scholl’s, I pictured gel inserts, Velcro white shoes, bunion relief… you catch my drift. But, and don’t laugh, these shoes are so cute and comfy! And I feel like you could wear them with a bunch of different outfits. So, excuse my ignorance and buy these slip ons. You won’t regret it!
I mentioned earlier that I made pumpkin muffins this week, but I didn’t yet say that they were pumpkin chocolate chip muffins. NOM! PaleOMG is one of my favorite go to healthy recipe websites. Juli Bauer runs it, and I’ve loved every recipe of hers I’ve tried. Including these muffins! Enjoy!
My love of fall is only upstaged by my absolute love of Christmas. It truly is the most wonderful time of the year. And, as I’m sure I’ve mentioned in the past, I am slightly addicted to Hallmark movies. Yeah, yeah, I know. They’re sometimes a little cheesy, but I can’t stop watching. And Hallmark recently put out their list of new Christmas movies coming soon! Check it out here… there are some goodies in the bunch!!
Do you guys remember Avril Lavigne??? (DUH) Well she just released a new song inspired by her fight against Lyme Disease, and it’s SO good. I can’t wait to have a car concert the next time I’m driving. Check out the video!
The next book I’m reading is Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren. The romance & women’s fiction writing duo pen some of my favorite feel good, lovey dovey books. I can’t wait to dive into this one!
I think that’s about it! Do you love Fall? What’s your favorite part?
Until next time,
